About This Spot
Stepping into Mr. Hong’s in Gilroy feels like finding a familiar spot tucked into the flow of the day—a casual local eatery that hums with a steady rhythm of quick orders and comforting flavors. The atmosphere is unpretentious, where the focus leans less on décor and more on the steady shuffle of friendly service and kitchen aromas that hint at something warm and satisfying coming your way.
The pace here is bright and brisk, perfectly matching a clientele often grabbing takeout to fuel busy days. Inside, the dining area is modest and practical, a brief pause spot rather than a destination for lingering. It’s a place where the food shines brightest—the generous portions and familiar tastes that make each visit feel reliably good, whether you’re grabbing a bite to go or settling in for a quick meal.
At Mr. Hong’s, the menu feels like a comforting mix of classics and unexpected treats, all served with generosity that often surprises first-timers. There’s a palpable eagerness in the kitchen to bring out fresh dishes, vibrant with flavors that invite sharing and second helpings. The balance of savory staples, like flavorful chicken dishes, and more delicate items such as tender noodle soups, creates a satisfying variety that suits both a quick lunch and a more relaxed dinner.
Beverage lovers find a small, thoughtful selection of flavored teas that add a subtle sweetness or refreshing contrast to the meal. And for those who appreciate small touches—tempura rolls and crispy tenders—there’s a tactile pleasure to these familiar favorites, made fresh and offered with genuine care.
This spot quietly draws in locals who crave hearty, straightforward food with a side of warm, attentive service. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the joy of a meal comes from the feeling of being well-fed and welcomed, more than from polished surroundings or elaborate plating.

You can expect hearty portions and quick service. Good selection and they are constantly bringing out fresh food. It seems like most people take the food to go. That’s why the dining area is a little neglected. All the tables are wobbly and usually it clean.

Amazing food. Great portions. And egg rolls so good they're worth stealing from your friend's plate. Mr. Hong's is really the only reason we come to Gilroy.

Stopped by for the first time, I had the bowl with fried rice and beef/broccoli. The portion was alot. Had plenty of leftover to take home for the next day. Joe had two entree plate with beef/broccoli, sweet sour pork and chow mein. Next time I will try the sushi rolls.

We came in last night. As a vegetarian, they were willing to fry me up some fresh vegetables, and tofu, which was absolutely delicious. They give you tons of food and the value is amazing. They have great spring rolls for only $1.25 each. Also, the family that runs this place could not be any more lovely and kind. Highly recommend this place for good value fast Chinese food.
